When Leo Hendrik Baekeland, a Belgian chemist, was experimenting in his laboratory to find a new material, he certainly was not aware that the new substance he found after numerous experiments would be such a success. “Bakelit“ had several very fortunate properties – hard as steel, flexible as wax, heat resistent as ceramic. He could not imagine that mankind would develop such an appetite for this new substance… and we have an enormous problem with all our plastic waste, which is today floating in the oceans.
We, the class 12SBi, have been working on the issue of plastic waste, and found the project launched by a young Dutch engineer very interesting.
